Governance

The Governing Board of the College

In general terms, the management and control of the College is vested by the Synod of the Diocese of Sydney in the Moore College Council. The Moore College Council is incorporated under the Anglican Church Bodies Corporate Act 1938 and is constituted by the Moore Theological College Ordinance 1984. Under the Ordinance the Council is charged with the provision of training for ordination candidates and other church workers.

The affairs of the Moore College Council are managed, governed and controlled by the Governing Board of the College. The Trustees of the Estate of the late Thomas Moore also have important responsibilities, including, in consultation with the Governing Board, the appointment of the Principal.

The Governing Board invites the Senior Student, the Bursar and the Directory of Property Planning to attend its meetings as observers.

Academic Structures

The Governing Board has delegated to the Board of Studies responsibility for:

  1. Policy formulation and decision making in all academic matters; and
  2. Maintaining theacademic values, quality and standards of theCollege.

The Board of Studies is, in relation to all academic matters, the pre-eminent source of advice to the Governing Board.

The members of the Board are:

  • The Principal;
  • All members of the Faculty;
  • The Library Manager;
  • The Director of External Studies;
  • An academic external to the College;
  • A student representative elected by the students; and
  • The Registrar.

This Board is chaired by the Academic Dean (Mark Thompson) and meets five times per year.

The Board delegates various functions to a number of committees which report directly to it. The committees are:

  • The Postgraduate Committee;
  • The Board of Examiners;
  • The Library Committee;
  • The External Studies Committee;
  • The Bookshop Committee; and
  • The Human Research Ethics Committee.

The Academic Dean (Mark Thompson), in conjunction with the Board of Studies and its committees, is responsible for the supervision of the studies of theological students.

The Dean of Students (Keith Condie) is responsible for all matters which affect the personal and spiritual welfare of students and their families.

The Advisor to Overseas Students (Greg Anderson) is the official point of contact for overseas students with the College.
