“When I enter the pulpit with the Bible in my hands and in my heart, my blood begins to flow and my eyes to sparkle for the sheer glory of having God’s Word to expound” – John Stott

Good preaching is more than historical revelation, skilled oration, or the ability to give multimedia presentations. Rather it is the present Word of God to His people. And it is to communicate this that is the preacher’s first calling. Rev Chris Green, Oak Hill Theological College, London will deliver the annual Moore College Lectures for 2012 on preaching. Chris has specific responsibility at Oak Hill for preaching training. He is the Vice Principal and previously was the pastor of a church in south London. His main area of interest is ministry and preaching.

A well rounded ministry will be biblical in a number of ways, and whether we are counselling, teaching, training, discipling or doing apologetics, we will need to handle God’s word. Preaching is the foundation of the church’s life, the means by which the Lord Jesus leads, feeds, guards and equips his people. For this reason, preaching is the central ministry in which our students need training. No college can truly train a preacher. A preacher is made by the gifts and personality that God gives, and then the slow development over years of hard work and prayerful ministry.
These qualities are what make a preacher. But a college can make a significant contribution by putting the right habits in place. Chris will lead us carefully through this training process. He will address our topic over one night and five days.
