Undergraduate Courses

BD / BTh

Bachelor of Divinity (BD)

(CRICOS Code 013598B)

Bachelor of Divinity (BD), is the core of the College program and the foundation of the applied ministry stream and its postgraduate courses. It is a four year degree, designed for students who require a biblical and theological foundation for full-time Christian ministry. All students enrol in the BD or BTh during their first two years. In Year 3 they either complete the BTh or continue their enrolment in the BD. With the exception of Hebrew, there are no elective BD or BTh units in Years 1 to 3. In Year 4 of the BD course, students are required to enrol in four core units and four (three if a project is chosen) electives. Hebrew 1 and a project in Year 4 are prerequisites for students to be eligible for the award of the BD with honours.

Bachelor of Theology (BTh)

(CRICOS Code 041656J)

The three year Bachelor of Theology course is designed for students who wish to graduate after three years. It is fully nested within the BD and consists of all subjects of the first three years of the BD.
The Bachelor of Theology (BTh) – this is the first three years of the BD program. The BTh may be taken with a specialisation in youth ministry.  (See course information)

Both the BD and the BTh are residential usually from Year 2.

Commitments

• All students enroled in the BD or BTh, undertake a common program in the first three years. Students enrol in either course and may apply to the Academic Board to transfer to the other award at any time.
• The broad structure of the four-year course reflects a commitment to the principle of integration both within and across the theological disciplines.
◦ First year units generally take the form of overviews of each field of study which provide a context for detailed examination of the parts in years two and three.
◦ Fourth year introduces some specialist electives but normally as a means of drawing together the knowledge and skills acquired in the earlier years.

Length of Courses

The BD is awarded on the basis of four year full-time or equivalent residential study. At times it may take longer depending upon a student’s circumstance but normally must be completed in eight years

The BTh is awarded on the basis of three years full-time or equivalent residential study and normally must be completed in seven years.

Ministry Skills

The BD & BTh include one compulsory unit relating to ministry skills in each year of the course. This stream aims to facilitate integration of theological study with reflection on practical and pastoral matters and to meet the various vocational and denominational needs of students.

Student Minister Placement

All students are encouraged to undertake ministry in a local church during the course of their studies. The ordination candidates for the Anglican dioceses such activity is required. The maximum allowable time on such activities is 1.5 days per week (including Sundays). In most cases the work is paid. Allowance is made in the non-academic component of College life for preparation for such ministry.

The College assists students to locate ministry positions. The web site www.ministry.moore.edu.au provides information on available positions to students and information on available students to ministers. Access to this site is provided as soon as an incoming student is informed on their admission to College.

Part-time

Part-time Courses are offered for the first year of the BD and BTh program and the Diploma programs.
