HomeMoore College MissionsDay 2: Some things are worth celebrating

Day 2: Some things are worth celebrating

March 19, 2018 by Moore College

Something we did:

Today started early, with a group heading down to the local station to meet commuters with an early morning sugar rush (read Easter egg treat) and an invite to the Jesus Is events taking place this week. There were a few hundred flyers handed out and they were met with a good response.

A little later on, we met together for the first time as Team Lake Illawarra and spent the morning in prayer and smoothing out some of the details for the week ahead. We were all feeling buoyant and excited having been welcomed with great kindness and generosity the day before.

As we looked forward our week will have four main focuses;

1. The Jesus Is____. talks at the local civic centre.

2. SRE Easter assemblies taking place in a number of local schools.

3. Conversations with members of the community in the local parishes.

4. The Free to Be youth event at WIN Stadium on Friday night.

Something encouraging:

It was great to share stories of our Sunday experiences, to hear the way that people had been encouraged by local church members and to see the ways we would be partnering with them this week.

The bonding time we had as a team over the morning and sharing lunch, getting to know those from college and the local ministers better. Praise God for such a warm and generous welcome to the region.

Something surprising:

This morning, Peter shared about a conversation he had with an overseas student after the sermon. They spoke for a long time and are planning to meet later in the week to continue the conversation. Please ask God to be with Peter as he talks with this man & that he would ultimately recognise Jesus is ___ his Lord & Saviour.

Something to pray for:

The people who have been invited along to the Jesus is talks and the Free to be event. Please be praying that God would prepare their hearts to receive the message and accept Jesus as Lord.

That members of the community will continue in boldness in inviting their workmates, friends and neighbours along to the different events.

Please ask for the Spirit’s strength to be with the group as we prepare for the conversations we will have tomorrow.

Something Happening tomorrow:

Having spent two days with the local churches and preparing for the upcoming events. Tomorrow is where our interaction with the community of Lake Illawarra really hits the road. We begin with our first public gathering at the Civic centre where Ben Pfahlert will be unpacking the topic, Jesus is Legit.

We will also be heading into schools for the first time to participate in SRE assemblies. Please pray that these assemblies will be great opportunities for kids to hear that Jesus is the saviour and for those of us who are part of the skit will know our lines and deliver them with the right tone.
