HomeMoore College MissionsHow local is local?

How local is local?

March 31, 2017 by Moore College

“Are you a local?” “Oh, no, I’ve only been here 20 years”. This conversation has been surprisingly common this week.  Apparently we’ve had our definition of ‘local’ wrong.  One 70 year old has been here for 50 years, and even that isn’t enough to gain ‘local’ status.  We don’t have 50 years to make connections.  We only have a week.

Fortunately, there are still plenty of connections we can make in a week.  Today we headed out into the streets of Glen Innes and Guyra to chat to ‘locals’ down the main street and to knock on doors to meet more.  We had some great conversations, some of us were invited in for a cuppa, and there were open doors for future connections with church.  Others of us went to Nursing Homes, to sing hymns with the residents and share with them how God has been working in our lives.  The Guyra Girls enjoyed learning the basics of beading while chatting to the other women there. Tonight they’ll be sharing dinner and encouragement at the Ladies Colour group – sadly not a colouring-in group, but they are handling their disappointment well.  Meanwhile in Glen, the men are gathering for a dinner where they will be challenged about where they stand with Jesus, and the women will also enjoy dinner together.

More singing at nursing homes

Please pray for more connections to be made tomorrow, and for God to be at work tomorrow as we proclaim the good news of salvation at the Ladies dinner and the Gospel Café.
