International Students

• Applicants for undergraduate courses require a degree from an Australian university or its equivalent.
• Applicants for the postgraduate Master of Arts (Theology) require at a minimum, a Bachelor of Theology (BTh) or its equivalent.
• Applicants for the Master of Theology (MTh) and the PhD require at a minimum a 4 year Bachelor of Divinity (Honours 2A) or a qualification of equivalent standard.
• All applicants whose first language is not English and who have not met the academic admission requirements in English medium, are required to present evidence of a successful Academic IELTS exam. If you are currently in Australia you can book a test with IELTS Australia.
  • Undergraduate applicants must achieve at least 7.0 in all categories of the academic test. TOEFL scores are also accepted.
  • Postgraduate applicants must achieve at least 7.5 in all categories of the academic test. TOEFL scores are also accepted.
    
    

Work-Integrated Learning

The BTh/ThM incorporates work-integrated learning in two practicum units, in second year and fourth year. The practicums provide students with the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills they acquire in the course into ministry contexts. Each practicum is one semester in duration and typically involves work in a church as a student minister. Students will be supervised by an experienced member of the ministry team and will receive support from the College in the experience. Students will observe ministry in practice and be given opportunities to perform ministry that might include preaching, leading services, leading small groups, training lay leaders, and 1-on-1 personal ministry. Students will reflect on the ministry practice they observe as well as their own practice and receive feedback from their supervisor about their performance.

• International students pay tuition fees according to a payment in arrears agreement. This means that tuition fees are paid at the end of each semester of study.
• When an international student is offered admission, the College will make arrangements with the student for the payment in arrears agreement. The agreement lists all tuition fees which a student is required to pay and when those payments are due for the whole of the course in which a student is enrolled.

International Student Housing

Moore College normally offers accommodation for International students. Once your application to study is accepted and approved, your name will be given to the relevant accommodation coordinator. International students who are approved to study at college will then receive an email to confirm that they have been allocated a room in single accommodation. Married students will receive an application for housing to complete. Housing is limited so it is best to apply early for admission to Moore College as houses can only be offered to accepted students. See all info on student accommodation.

To collect your keys and move in to your accommodation, please schedule an appointment for married housing, and for single accommodation.

Accommodation rates are reviewed annually, and fees for the following year will be announced in July.

To be considered for entry to Australia, an international student must:

• be applying for full-time study
• be academically qualified for the course they seek to undertake
• have an adequate standard of English
• be genuinely seeking temporary entry for study purposes only
• be of good health, and have health insurance cover
• provide evidence that they have enough money to pay for tuition fees, living costs and return air fares for the total period of their course. Students who come to Australia and cannot support themselves may be required to leave Australia.

In accordance with the ESOS Act 2000, Moore College is a registered provider on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS). CRICOS Provider Code: 00682B.

If admitted to Moore College and granted entry into Australia international students are subject to the provisions of the ESOS Act 2000. These include:

• They must supply the College with accurate contact details (including Australian residential address, telephone or mobile number and email) and notify College of any change to this information.
• The College is obliged to inform international students admitted to the College that if contact details are not up-to-date, then ‘automatic visa cancellation could occur without the knowledge of the student’.
• Students should be aware that any information provided to the College may be made available to Australian Federal and State Government authorities.

When an applicant has been accepted by Moore College, they will be sent a letter of offer and confirmation of enrolment (CoE) with information about how to apply for a visa.

It is a requirement for international students to have membership of Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC).

Starting from 10 May 2024, international student visa applicants are required to demonstrate a minimum savings of AU$29,710 to cover their annual living expenses. Additional funds will be necessary for those with accompanying family members. For more information, please refer to Department of Home Affairs website.

• Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) must be covered for the entire stay in Australia from the date of arrival, from an approved Australian health insurance provider.
• The Cost of Living Calculator is designed to help you estimate the expenses associated with maintaining your desired lifestyle in Australia.

The Australian Government advises that the process of obtaining a visa can take up to four months. Further information on visa application procedures can be obtained from the nearest Australian diplomatic post or from the Department of Home Affairs. We encourage applicants to apply well in advance of the intended start date, and not less than eight weeks prior to the start of the study semester.

If you have school-aged children, please be aware that immigration requirements for a student visa include evidence of school enrolment for school-aged dependants. The government also provides information on school fees for dependants of international students.

The International Student Advisor coordinates orientation for overseas students and a mentoring/buddy system to help International Students adjust to study in Australia and at Moore. All International Students are assigned to a Chaplaincy Group and in addition, have the support of an International Student Chaplain. Their role is to support international students with the cultural dimensions of adjusting to study in Australia. They are available to meet you individually for support.

Campus Location

Our campus is located at 1 King Street, Newtown in Sydney, Australia. All lectures are held on campus but students are housed in one of three different locations in Sydney, all of which are easily accessed using public transport.

We have a comprehensive theological library on campus and all enrolled students have access to our library resources. The library has spaces for private study and group study. There is also a dedicated study space for higher degree research students. There is a dining room on campus and all students studying on campus can have lunch in the dining room on weekdays at no additional cost. There is a sunny courtyard for spending time with other students or for recreation.

Your safety

While Australia is generally regarded as a safe place to live, taking responsibility for your safety is still important. Here are some tips:

• Be aware of vehicles on the road and only cross the road at the pedestrian crossing (black and white lines going across the road) or at traffic lights when the man is green.
• Keep your valuables close to you and zip up bags. Don’t leave your phone unattended or where it can easily be snatched.
• Try to avoid being out alone late at night and stay in busy, well-lit areas.
• Make sure these numbers are in your phone:
  • 000 – for emergency use only e.g. fire, ambulance, police. Use it only in life-threatening situations, if a crime is in progress or if a fire is out of control
  • Police Assistance Line – 131 444
  • State Emergency Service – 132 500. Use for help in floods or storms

  • Lifeline – 13 11 14. Use for personal crisis counselling. It is a free service

• If swimming in the sea or a river, swim only in the area between the yellow and red flags. If you get into trouble in the sea, try to stay calm and raise your arm to attract the attention of a lifeguard.
• Don’t walk in the bush on your own and if you decide to enjoy nature by having a bushwalk with friends, let someone else know where you are going.
• Some snakes and spiders in Australia are dangerous. If you encounter a snake, do not approach it and keep still while it moves away.
• Find out where your nearest medical centre, hospital and police station are located.

Once you have returned your acceptance and received an email from the Registrar Department with your Student ID number:

• Activate your Microsoft 360 account and log into your Moore College student email
• Upload your photo
• Apply for a student visa
• Apply for Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
• Apply for a Working With Children Check WWCC upon arrival in Australia
• Complete or renew Safe Ministry Training SMT
• Organise Student Ministry position (if applicable)
• Apply for USI upon arrival in Australia

June or asap after June:

• Organise College Accommodation (not applicable for part-time students or those given permission to not live in college accommodation)
• Block out the date of the College Mission Week in your diary (6-13 April 2025)

November:

• Sign up for Welcome Day and Orientation
• Opt-in for Chaplaincy groups (only if you are a part-time student, all full-time students are automatically placed in a chaplaincy group)

January:

• Register for units (you will receive an email inviting you to use an online form)
• Sign in to the LSS (Online learning support system)
• Attend Saturday Welcome Day (all on-campus students, full and part-time)

February:

• Attend orientation weeks (compulsory for all full-time students and part-time students studying Greek, optional for part-time students not studying Greek)
• Part-time students studying M&M1 but not Greek must attend the M&M1 intensive in the second week of orientation but would benefit from attending both weeks
• All other classes begin mid-February
