Graduate Certificate of Ministry Development (GCMD)
The Graduate Certificate of Ministry Development is an award intended for enabling the ministry of clergy to be enhanced in facets of ministry that are best developed while in the practice of vocational ministry.

Admission Requirements
The academic requirements for admission to the course may be satisfied by the following:
- A bachelor degree in theology or ministry, or a Master of Divinity from institutions such as those colleges affiliated with the Australian College of Theology, or equivalent, or at least five years’ work and life vocational ministry experience in a leadership role. Where necessary, an academic competency entrance test may be required.
Other Criteria
- Understanding of and aptitude for Christian leadership and ministry (including leadership potential, ministry experience, experience of sharing the knowledge of God and exemplary personal life consistent with the principles of the Anglican Church of Australia, Diocese of Sydney).
- Recommendation from employer.

Units of Study
There are four units of study in the Graduate Certificate of Anglican Ministry.
CM543 Pastoral Supervision A and CM544 Pastoral Supervision B
These units focus on developing the ability to independently and wisely supervise church workers based on theological considerations, theoretical models, and best practices. They introduce the essential components of managing the supervision relationship, optimal processes for the learning of the supervisee, and the ethical and legal responsibilities, and self-care of the supervisor.
The units contribute to the graduate certificate by widening the perspective of the student and providing advanced methods for serving others for formative, normative and restorative outcomes.
CM545 Resilience Enhancement and Overcoming Trauma
This unit employs evidence-based and validated techniques established in ministry settings for the building of resilience and the overcoming of trauma. It integrates God-given resources with proven practices to identify areas of non-resilience and trauma and develops the student to independently implement methods to enhance their resilience and the resilience of others whom they serve, and to assist in supporting people through trauma experiences.
The unit contributes to the graduate certificate by enabling the student to reflect upon and improve their own well-being so they may better serve others and the church.
CM546 Ministry Mastery
This unit focuses on developing the student’s ability to critically understand ministry situations and the personal characteristics of themselves and others to promote wise agility and adaptability in ministry settings. It assists in establishing appropriate expectations of performance and ministry development. It integrates theological models with evidence from the ministry setting to understand the hindrances and supports available to optimise the God-given internal and external resources.
It contributes to the graduate certificate by nuancing and applying Biblical truth to the personal and system practises in which they operate to enhance independence and wise judgement for good stewardship of personal and church resources.
