Student Support Fund (SSF)

Apply for the SSF
Current SSF Members

Moore Theological College recognises the very real challenges our students face, to afford living and studying at College full-time.

The Student Support Fund was created by the College to help students to be financially supported during their studies in addition to paid work, government assistance, and potential bursaries/scholarships.

The Student Support Fund (‘the Fund’) has a key role providing members with encouragement to seek financial gospel partners, and providing our students with the appropriate guidance and administrative support.

The Fund’s purpose is to assist current students to afford living and studying at college – through supporters’ prayerful generosity:

  • Student members are partners with the College, raising support into the Fund.
  • Supporter’s donations are stored within the Moore College accounts system.
  • Payments from the Fund ensure that the students receive what they need, to live and study at college.

Moore Theological College encourages all students to be part of the Student Support Fund:

  • Financial support through gospel partnerships helps students live and study in college community, to make the most of communal and theological learning.
  • Students’ future ministry roles require financial gospel partnership. Our students learn relational partnership skills, guided and guarded by theological conviction.
  • Financial supporters receive students’ personal prayer updates and are blessed by a wider vision of Christ’s kingdom work at College and beyond.

Eligibility

All Moore College students currently enrolled in an on-campus accredited Moore College course are eligible to be part of the Student Support Fund.

Future students can register for the Fund once accepted into their Moore College course.

Considering the Fund’s administrative costs, only applicants with an annual need of $10K or more will be considered eligible for membership.

Information for Supporters

If you would like to support a particular student, your support will be pooled, then allocated to meet their needs for living and studying at college, based on the student’s approved annual budget.

Student members are committed to seek support for 110% of their needs, so to assist other student members in need and contribute to the sustainability of the Student Support Fund.

Any excess to this will be carried forward to their future years at college until they leave college or the Fund, upon which the excess remains in the pool for allocation to assist current student members and the sustainability of the Fund.

The College retains full discretion over all money received into and paid from the Student Support Fund.

Will I receive a tax deduction?

Any contribution over $2 will be tax deductible.

As a higher education provider, Moore Theological College Council is a deductible gift recipient. As such, donations to the College are tax deductible. This includes all donations to the Student Support Fund, which is an internal account of the College.

The Student Support Fund is set up for the purpose of assisting current students to afford living and studying at college. As such, donations to the Student Support Fund are pooled, and paid at the discretion of the College to meet student member needs and contribute to the sustainability of the Fund.

How can I support a particular student?

Each SSF student member has a webpage where you can choose to give into the fund under their name.

Please ensure that you follow our instructions, particularly if you are giving by direct deposit so that your giving is marked correctly for the student.

If you have any questions, please contact us: [email protected]

Will my giving go directly to the student I choose?

Your support will be pooled, then allocated to meet their needs for living and studying at college, based on their approved annual budget.

The student will be informed of your giving in a monthly report.

Payments from the Fund to the student are determined by each student’s need, and is at the discretion of the College and the sustainability of the Fund.

Can I give generally to the Student Support Fund?

Yes you can give generally to the Fund here. The College will distribute your giving to any student member in need.

Will I receive a tax receipt?

Yes you will receive a tax receipt upon giving, and an annual tax statement at Financial Year End.

Are my contact details shared?

Contact details and donations details are stored securely by Moore College, and shared with the student you are supporting.

Along with any personal prayer points sent by the student, College communications will be sent to you.

We hope that through these, you are blessed by a wider vision of Christ’s kingdom work at the College and beyond. You have the option to opt-out or change your details at any time: [email protected]

Information for Students

Considering the Fund’s administrative costs, only applicants with a Personal Amount of $10K or more, (i.e. Support Target of $11K or more) will be considered eligible for membership.

Any support that you raise will be pooled, then allocated to meet your needs for living and studying at college, based on an approved annual budget.

You are required to commit to seek support for 110% of your needs, so to assist other student members in need and contribute to the sustainability of the Student Support Fund.

Any excess to this will be carried forward to your future years at college until you leave college or the Fund, upon which the funds remain in the pool for allocation to assist current student members and the sustainability of the Fund.

The College retains full discretion over receipts and payments from the Student Support Fund.  Receipts will be retained in the Fund if any future student does not commence studying after enrolling, or when any current student ceases studying at the College.

Prior to the start of each new year, we will give instructions for you to send us an updated budget for the new year, with your instructions for payment.

Reach out early if you are struggling financially, or in raising support. You can easily book a time to discuss your support raising, or any questions you might have,

I’ve never asked anyone for financial support. Should I consider the SSF?

Yes – College is the perfect time and space to learn relational partnership skills, guided and guarded by theological conviction.

Moore College Partnerships can provide you with the appropriate guidance and administrative support to start sharing your journey and asking gospel partners for their financial support. Prayerfully we can help you with feedback, plans, connections, and ideas.

Why is my annual budget important?

Each student is required to submit an annual budget to show what they need to live and study at college, using the template given upon application. Please ensure accurate and reasonable amounts – your budget deficit forms the basis of the targets as outlined below. Each budget requires review and approval by the College.

If your student circumstances or financial circumstance change, please advise us asap with an updated budget.

Prior to the start of a new year, we will give instructions for you to send us an updated budget for the new year, with your instructions for payment.

What target do I need to raise?

Your annual Personal Amount and Support target amounts are related to your approved annual budget, and the forecasted financial sustainability of the Fund.

  • Personal Amount Target: 100% of your annual budget deficit
  • Support Target: 10% on top of your Personal Amount

Student members are required commit to raising their Support Target, so that the 10% excess can generously help other student members in need and contribute to the sustainability of the Fund.

How will I know about new supporters or supporter changes?

You will receive a monthly statement.

What will I be paid?

Student Support Fund payments are to be used for living and educational expenses.  These must be included in your budget. Please note that we do not deem tuition fees as an eligible expense for students with access to a FEE-HELP loan for tuition fees, except in extraordinary circumstances or if there’s an established agreement.

The College retains full discretion over payments from the Student Support Fund.  The payment amount is determined by the actual funds you have raised, up to a maximum of your pro-rata Personal Amount.

When will I receive payment?

The payments are scheduled twice a semester and once in between, i.e. five times a year.

How will I be paid?

You can choose for payment to be made to your college accommodation, tuition fees, and/or personal bank account.

You can choose the combination in which you’d like to be paid, however if you have selected Personal Bank Account (PBA), please note that we will pay only to your bank account after any semester college debts of Tuition Fees and Accommodation are covered first.  To minimise any confusion, if you have selected PBA, please set up a direct debit account for your own payment of your Accommodation.

What happens to receipts raised in excess of my needs?

Any excess over your Support Target will be carried forward to your future years at college until you leave college or the Fund, upon which the excess remains in the pool for allocation to assist current student members and the sustainability of the Fund.

Are the payments that I receive from the fund taxable?

If necessary, students should seek independent advice as to whether the scholarships may have any impact on their personal taxable income or government support.
