Bill’s Journey: Learning to Minister to All of God’s People

Bill is in his final year at Moore College, training for a lifetime of gospel ministry. For the past three years, he has served with the WeBelong Student Service Team, working alongside volunteers from Newtown Erskineville Anglican Church (NEAC) at Jesus Club—a space that welcomes adults with and without intellectual disabilities.

“Before College, I encountered people with disabilities, but I didn’t know how to minister well to them. One of my hopes at College was to receive training so that I could better relate to this group of people and share the gospel with them.” – Bill

At WeBelong, Bill met Will.

Will’s Journey: A Long Road to Belonging

Will is a 23 year old with intellectual disabilities, including Level 3 autism. He is a non-verbal communicator, and he also has epilepsy and anxiety – all which make group participation difficult. Despite this, Will loves the WeBelong group. He looks forward to every gathering, where he is cared for, valued, and missed when he’s not there.

His mother, Kate, has been active in the WeBelong group since its inception.

Kate’s deep hope is for Will to belong to God’s family and to know his value in God’s eyes.

Yet, for a long time, Will remained on the outside.

One Year Outside the Door

At first, Will wouldn’t even enter the NEAC building. His anxiety kept him outside every Friday night.

But Bill and other Moore College students met him where he was.

Instead of pressuring him to go inside, they stayed outside with him—playing guitar and singing Christian songs.

A simple tap on the shoulder was Will’s way of saying, “Keep going. I like this.”

For a entire year, Will stayed outside the building.

Then, last June, God answered the prayers of many.

Will stepped inside.

For the first time, he felt comfortable enough to join the group and participate in the activities. His mother’s deep hope for Will to grow in his understanding that he is a loved child of God was strengthened as he was able to hear about King Jesus and access more materials to help his faith grow.

Praise the Lord!

Training Future Gospel Workers to Serve ALL People

WeBelong is more than just a group—it is a place where people of all abilities experience the love of Jesus.

Moore College is committed to training the next generation of gospel workers to serve in all ministry contexts.

“College wants students to engage in real ministry outside the classroom. When they do, their learning connects with real-life experiences—helping them speak more richly about God’s grace and preach the gospel in a way that meets people where they are.”

Will You Help Train Gospel Workers Like Bill?

“Every couple of weeks, I get to share Jesus in a way that is clear, understandable, and really enjoyable. It is great to see people grow more comfortable hearing the gospel. I arrive tired after a big week but leave feeling uplifted, excited, and energised.” – Bill

Bill started College with a love for Jesus and a desire to serve.

Now, through theological training and hands-on ministry, he is being shaped for a lifetime of ministering to ALL of God’s people.
