Each year Moore College sends teams of students, faculty and chaplains out from College to partner with churches to run missions that proclaim Jesus.
College Purposes for Mission
College mission is an integral part of the theological education that we offer here at Moore. We are committed to seeing theory and practice – theology and ministry – going hand in hand. Our purposes for College mission are;
- To be active in God’s mission of bringing all things under Christ
- To honour the Lord Jesus by actively proclaiming the gospel of his saving love
- To reach out to the lost and hopeless, to comfort the afflicted and to encourage the faithful
- To give expression to unity and partnership in the gospel
- To give expression to the partnership in gospel that the College enjoys with Christian ministries throughout the world
- To support the gospel proclamation of our partners, by providing willing and able labourers for the harvest to join hands with them for the week of mission
- To further train our students
- To provide opportunities for students to learn ministry through training, practise and reflection
- To provide exposure to students of different models of ministry and different ministry contexts
- To provide a shared experience of ministry together for students which will both build community and create opportunities for reflection

Hosting a Mission Team
We are delighted that you are interested in hosting a Moore College Mission team. It is our experience and expectation that these mission weeks will be times of great mutual encouragement for the work of the gospel. We have a large number of churches and ministries asking for teams from the College each year, and your completion of this proposal package is a great help to us as we seek to make wise choices. We want to be clear about our purposes and expectations for College Missions, and to give you an opportunity to clarify your expectations and plans as well. College mission is an integral part of the theological education offered at Moore College. It provides opportunities to see theory and practice working together. Moore College Missions are normally held in term 1 of the College calendar and run from Sunday to Sunday.
Your program
As you develop the program for College Mission, could you bear the following things in mind?
- We want to model for our students, appropriate patterns of work and rest for sustainable ministry.
It is important that the team be given a day to rest within the time of mission, but also that they are active and engaged in ministry throughout the week. - We want our students to be engaged in evangelism.
All kinds of ministry experiences are valuable, but we are concerned that evangelism be a priority in the week of mission. - We encourage you to be generous and courageous in providing ministry opportunities for the students.
Our students are inexperienced in ministry, but we undertake to provide coaching and workshopping for any student who will be asked to preach or speak evangelistically, and to only offer you people we believe to be up to the task.
I trust that the proposal process is helpful for you in clarifying your expectations of a potential College Mission. Your patience and commitment to the process is very much appreciated. We expect that mission proposals will vary significantly from church to church and ministry to ministry. Some missions will be more dominated by one or other of the purposes for mission. We do not have a single ‘ideal’ mission in mind, but seek to provide a breadth and variety of mission experiences for our students.
See the PDF version of the Moore College Mission Application Form to discuss with your church staff teams. Once you have completed the form as a staff team, please submit it our Head of Mission, Simon Gillham.
Resources for Running an Effective Moore College Mission
Hear from Lionel Windsor, lecturer at Moore College, and Mark Bolas, Assistant Minister at Penrith Anglican Church, as they discuss how Moore College Mission was planned for at Penrith Anglican and why it was such a success.
These resources were used to run Moore College Mission at Penrith Anglican in 2019 and can be used as templates or inspiration for helping to think through how to run a Moore College Mission.
