From Youth Group to MTS Apprentice to Ordained Minister with Brian Luong

From Youth Group to MTS Apprentice to Ordained Minister with Brian Luong

March 1, 2022 by Moore College

Recently ordained in the Presbyterian Church of Victoria, Brian Luong always knew he had a heart for the gospel. He says, “I’ve always had a desire to serve the church and preach the gospel, but I often felt ill-equipped.” This is his story of coming to faith, growing, being trained and serving in ministry.

Dr Paul Yeates appointed new Registrar

February 23, 2022 by Ben George

It is with great joy and in eager anticipation that the Governing Board of Moore Theological College has appointed Dr Paul Yeates to replace Rhonda Barry in the position of Registrar.

We are very thankful for the fifteen years of exemplary service by Ms Barry, who has served in this role with great tenacity of purpose and distinction. She was also instrumental in Moore College being named a University College in 2021.

Dr Yeates is coming to the role with great experience, coming from the Australian College of Theology (ACT) where he has been since October 2015, where he monitors the ACT’s compliance with government legislation, oversees the ACT’s quality management system, and to implement ACT’s risk management framework.

Principal, Dr Mark Thompson remarked:

“We have been brilliantly served for more than a decade by Rhonda Barry as our Registrar. While sad to see her time with us come to an end, I am thrilled that Dr Paul Yeates has been appointed by the Governing Board as her successor. Paul brings to the role a godly character, significant experience in the higher education sector, and personal knowledge of and commitment to the mission of the College. As we continue as an Australian University College heading towards reaccreditation in seven years’ time, I am thankful to God that someone of Paul’s skills and experience will be leading our academic administration in this way.”

Chair of the College’s Academic Board, Professor David Cohen heartily welcomed the appointment of Dr Yeates:

“’The Registrar provides critical support for the work of the Board in guiding our internal quality assurance processes and ensuring that we meet the extensive regulatory requirements set out in the TEQSA Higher Education Standards Framework’. The College has been blessed by a succession of skillful and dedicated Registrars, including Rhonda Barry and Alan Hohne, who have carried the primary responsibility for assembling the successful applications by the College to obtain self-accrediting status and more recently to become one of the few University Colleges. I am very much looking forward to working with Dr Yeates!”

Dr Yeates also comes with a knowledge of Moore College, himself a graduate of the Bachelor program in 2007. He later did his PhD at Macquarie University in the Department of Ancient History. His thesis was on the cosmology of the book of Revelation in the Roman imperial setting.

Please pray for Dr Yeates, his wife Nicole, and their three children, as they transition back into the Moore College community in this significant role.

The Moore PTC: Accessible Theological Education For All

February 4, 2022 by Tim Hu

More than that, I realised at College how this little correspondence course was benefiting many others around the world. I remember the shock of learning that this PTC thing – which any of us in Australia can easily sign up and do in our spare time – would be the only biblical resource that some can access in their part of the world (for our younger readers, imagine a pre-historic time when the internet wasn’t on tap, which is still true for many in the world)! There’d be ministers who already pastor churches signing up and loving the PTC.

How the Black Summer of 2019/2020 prepared me for the pandemic

January 28, 2022 by Brooke Hazelgrove

There wasn’t a one-size-fits-all instant solution to the fires. The fires brought me to my knees, and I prayed, because I understood how far out of my control everything was.
