In one of our congregations, we recently conducted an online poll of the challenges people are facing as we head towards re-opening church. One of the most commonly identified challenges was learning to manage our fears and anxieties as we step back into meeting in person.

Bringing people back to church: A pastor’s word
Have we domesticated service?
However, I wonder if using it in such a way actually domesticates the real challenge of what Jesus is saying? This is the most radical agenda that has ever been taught.

The Gospel for Australia
The next generation of labourers for the harvest
While the pandemic increases our sense of the world’s instability and uncertainty, and it’s been a real challenge to persevere as Christians, it is important to know that our great God is more powerful than the pandemic. His control over all things is of course chiefly displayed in the gospel, the power of God that brings salvation for all who believe (cf. Rom 1:16). And it is precisely because of Jesus’ saving work on the cross and in his resurrection that we want to champion the cause of Christ to a world that desperately needs the security that only he can bring.
Following on from last year’s Sydney to the World production, we are prayerfully seeking to continue raising the temperature around recruitment the next generation of gospel workers. With the constraints of the pandemic, we are looking to specifically showcase the breadth of gospel opportunities around Australia, in the hope that many will be enthused to look beyond their own context and consider the immense possibilities for serving our Lord Jesus and his precious people.
Unlike last year where we packaged together a single event for you to watch, this year we will be delivering videos in a sort of social media package. That is, we will create multiple short videos that can be sent out via our social media platforms.
We hope that you will enjoy hearing from various gospel workers across Australia, as they whet your appetite to the vitally important gospel opportunities around Australia, and the exciting possibilities for future ministries.
To keep gospel work at the forefront of our minds, won’t you consider:
- Praying for these ministries around Australia regularly
- Sharing these videos via your social media platforms, emails, and any other means
- Having a conversation with your local minister
- How you might equip yourself to serve with these ministries
And above all, please pray that the Lord of the harvest will continue to raise up gospel workers for the ripe harvest field (cf. Matt 9:38).

A guaranteed way to deepen your faith
With almost half of us reporting little to no spiritual growth according to recent National Church Life Survey data, and our church services and programs still not back to normal, it might be a good time to find a Bible reading buddy and dive into Scripture together.

The danger of FOMO
One of the temptations that I think we as Christians face, more than we would like to admit, is the chasing after the things of this world for a fear of missing out.
