What does it mean to “redeem the time”?

What does it mean to “redeem the time”?

November 3, 2020 by Carl Matthei

Paul’s famous instruction in Ephesians 5:16 to “redeem the time” seems to endorse our modern day obsession with time efficiency. Even the evangelical commentators I most respect explain the verse this way. But this interpretation doesn’t sit well with me.

Head of Mission announced as new Vice Principal of Moore College

October 30, 2020 by Moore College

The Moore College Principal, Dr Mark Thompson, has today announced that the current Vice Principal, Dr Colin Bale, will conclude his service in that role at the end of 2020. Dr Bale will continue to serve as a member of the Moore College faculty until he retires in the second half of 2021. The Principal gave thanks to God for Dr Bale’s ministry to the College as a whole, to the faculty, and in particular to him personally. A farewell for Dr Bale will be arranged at the appropriate time.

This decision has led to the need to appoint a new Vice Principal, and Dr Thompson announced that he had asked the Rev Dr Simon Gillham to take up that office. Dr Gillham (who very recently completed his PhD with the South African Theological Seminary) joined the Moore College faculty in 2016 after eight years serving with the Church Missionary Society in Namibia. Prior to that he was involved in church planting, served in a parish in the Diocese of Newcastle, and completed his theological training at Moore College. Before all that he had a career as a policeman. Simon is married to Margie and they have two adult children, Maddie and Noah.

‘I am thrilled that Simon has been willing to take on this responsibility’, Dr Thompson said.

‘He has a great range of gifts and experience, and is loved and respected by everyone in the College. I am looking forward to working alongside him in this next exciting phase of the College’s life. His wisdom and global gospel focus will be great assets in the College’s leadership.’

Please pray for Simon and Margie as they make their transition to this new role.
