On the road to serve in Dongara

On the road to serve in Dongara

February 1, 2020 by Moore College

The start of the new decade will look very different for us as we travel by road from Sydney, New South Wales, to Dongara, Western Australia. A trip which sees us go from being New South Welshmen to Western Australians and a trip which sees us leave behind close family and friends to proclaim and teach the gospel on the other side of Australia.

Churches and Coronavirus

January 31, 2020 by Russell Powell

Churches have been urged to pray about the Coronavirus outbreak and to take sensible precautions as the World Health Organisation declares a public health emergency.

The Congregation has spoken: “We also want systematic theology!” – Ben Pakula

January 30, 2020 by Ben George

At the church I pastor a returning missionary was giving a brilliant sermon on Acts 17. Mid-talk he paused and asked the congregation to discuss this question: “Is Jesus still a man today?” I was perplexed as to why he would ask such an obvious question…until a number of people gave the wrong answer!

I experienced what I would later call a “theological heart-attack” as a number of people tentatively suggested that Jesus was no longer a man! Even though Acts 17:31 says God has appointed a man to judge the world!

Pursuing Sanctification – God’s work or ours? Part 2 – Daniel Bishop

January 28, 2020 by Ben George

In Part 1, Dan showed us that God’s sovereignty in our progressive sanctification (that is, our ongoing journey in holiness) is not in conflict with our efforts in this area, but that both operate together, as friends. Here, Dan returns to explain what is involved for us as Christians.

We need to change the conversation about adoption in NSW – Kara Hartley

January 27, 2020 by Ben George

Last September the NSW Parliament passed the Abortion Law Reform Bill, which effectively decriminalised abortion in the state.

The Sydney Anglican Synod met shortly afterwards, and so took the opportunity to pass a motion expressing our regret at the passing of the Bill. The final clause urged Christians to advocate for reforms to laws and policies relating to adoption and fostering. Essentially, the hope is for adoption to be an easier, more realistic option for women considering an abortion, as well as offering the possibility for children to grow up in a safe and nurturing family.

God, History and Australia Day – Kanishka Raffel

January 24, 2020 by Ben George

Nationalism fails to be Christian because it turns a blind eye to our own evil – as though it could be confined to the past, or was not our doing, or was a product of a different time, or was ‘well intended’, or was not the whole story.
