Why learn biblical Hebrew? – Dr Lionel Windsor
I teach first year Hebrew to Christian ministry trainees at Moore College. Learning Hebrew can be fun, but it also takes organisation, discipline and effort especially for students who are learning New Testament, Greek at the same time. Sometimes students in the early stages ask me whether the hard work is worth it? Why learn Hebrew in the first place anyway? Here’s my answer.

Appearing in this outstanding book which gathers together leading scholars to consider ways in which Jesus and his earliest followers understood their identities and missions in the light of their distinctive readings of the Old Testament. The volume explores why they read their Scriptures in these ways, and how that might impact our understanding of earliest Christianity and Christian interpretation of the Bible. In particular, the book considers that the Christ event functioned as a trigger for the earliest Christians, sparking the creative opportunity for their Bible to be re-read and re-interpreted in the light of its newfound conclusion.
