Lecturer in Old Testament

Moore College is seeking expressions of interest in a teaching position lecturing in Old Testament (Hebrew, Old Testament text and theology) and in biblical studies more generally.

The College

Moore College is an evangelical theological college based in Newtown, an inner-city suburb of Sydney. The College prepares men and women for a lifetime of Christian ministry and mission through in-depth biblical, theological and ministry training conducted in the context of a Christian community. Its flagship course is 4 year full-time residential course, but it provides a range of full-time/part-time, face-to-face and distance courses, from diploma to doctoral level, equipping students to love and serve God and people. The College has a significant role in the life of the Anglican Diocese of Sydney and many of its faculty are ordained Anglicans who are involved in churches in the diocese as well as other diocesan organizations. Providing the ministers for Anglican churches in Sydney, as well as pastors for other denominations and Christian workers for other settings including overseas cross-cultural mission, the College has around 450 enrolled students. Additionally, each year around 1,000 students are enrolled across the world studying by correspondence.

The Position

A lecturer at Moore participates in the College community primarily as a teacher and pastor, but is also involved in research, academic administration and the life of the churches we serve. Faculty members live alongside students on one of the College campuses and model Christian discipleship as well as pastoring and mentoring them.

The successful candidate will have

  • strong evangelical and reformed theological convictions consistent with the College’s published values
  • a PhD or equivalent in the field of biblical studies (Old Testament)
  • an ability to teach at a tertiary level within the fields of Old Testament (Hebrew, Old Testament texts, Old Testament theology) and in biblical studies more generally
  • proven personal and pastoral skills
  • demonstrable research ability

The successful candidate will also be ordained and/or able to be licensed by the Archbishop of Sydney to minister in the Diocese of Sydney. Ideally they will be able to commence duties at the commencement of first semester in 2026.

Teaching experience in undergraduate and/or adult education contexts and previous full-time pastoral ministry experience will be an advantage.
