Finding the funds to attend College full-time is challenging. Many need to obtain varied forms of support to make it possible. Some students may have already built a financial support base before coming to College when they did an MTS/AFES apprenticeship, others perhaps not. We’d like to encourage and support our students to gain support of this type while at college. This individual fundraising by the student, will be administered with the security of the Moore College accounts system, and with the supervision and support of the Moore College Foundation.
We’d like to encourage this both for former MTS and AFES apprentices as well as students new to this form of support. As well as helping students to gain support, we’re aware that many full-time ministry roles require some element of fundraising. So, they’ll be learning helpful skills for a lifetime of ministry.
All students currently enrolled in an on campus accredited Moore College course are entitled to apply for a Student Support Fund Account.
All Moore College scholarship recipients are required to open a Student Support Fund Account as well and they are strongly encouraged to raise financial support for their time at College instead of relying just on scholarships, paid work, FEE-Help, etc.
Future students can register for a Student Support Fund Account once they have been accepted into an on campus accredited Moore College course. They can open the accounts and start taking donations once their enrolment application has been accepted. However, no funds will be transferred out of their accounts until after the census date for their first term at College. College will retain all funds paid into their Student Support Fund Account if they don’t commence studying at College after their enrolment, and this will be distributed to other students.
Tax Deductible Status
We’re currently seeking advice as to whether the Student Support Fund Accounts might be eligible to receive Deductible Gift Recipient status. It’s worth noting that even if these accounts do receive Deductible Gift Recipient status, donations to students from their family members will not be tax deductible.
We will not charge any administration charge for setting up or maintaining Student Support Fund Accounts for eligible students. We will not charge any administration fee for payments made into the Student Support Fund Accounts either. However, there is a third-party transaction processing fee for payments made via credit/debit card on the Student Support Fund Accounts web pages, and these will be deducted from the linked Student Support Fund Accounts.
We currently receive a charge of 1.40% + 30c per domestic Visa/Mastercard transactions, 1.75% + 30c per domestic Amex transactions and 2.90% + 30c for international card transactions that come through our website. Direct deposits don’t incur any charge, and these should be made into the main College bank account with the name of the student as part of the description in order to be applied to the correct Student Support Fund Account.
The funds from the Student Support Fund Accounts are available for use for living and educational expenses such as: food, accommodation, books and travel. This will be based on trust because we don’t require receipts to be reimbursed like an expense account. Rather, students can speak directly to Moore College Foundation staff if they wish to withdraw a large amount at any one time for expenses other than normal day-to-day living expenses.
Means of Communication
All Student Support Fund Account holders are eligible to have a web page on the Moore College website set up for them, with their photo and some simple details of who they are and why they’re at College. Students need to contact the Moore College Foundation Department to set these up. These pages will also feature donation forms connected to the General Accounting Units for the specific Student Support Fund Accounts.
Students can choose to share their web page URLs with their supporter bases. All donations through these web pages will be treated as above. These web pages can be found by using the exact URL or by searching the name of the student in the search bar in the Moore College website. Alternatively, students can give the main College bank account details to supporters and ask them to include the name of the student as part of the description.
Receipts will be issued to donors by the Moore College Foundation Department. Contact details and giving history of donors will be stored by Moore College.
Statements will be issued to Student Support Fund Account holders by the Moore College Finance Department. They will be issued once per month and will include details on donations received, payments transferred out, and the remaining balance in the account.
Means & Frequency of Distribution
Monthly payments will be made directly into the Student Support Fund Account holder’s bank account. This will be done by the Moore College Finance Department and bank account details will be stored by them.
You can find the student you wish to support by simply typing their full name in the search bar of this website. If you are not able to find the student you wish to support, then please contact our Head of Foundation on +61 (0)2 9577 9900 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
